We had a great weekend though, even with the extra day, it seemed too short. Saturday I went and saw Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban with my friend Adrienne at the cheap seats theatre in Flint. That was a very good movie. Definitely more than worth the $2 I spent to see it. :) Afterwards I hung out at Adie's place in Flint for a while – she lives in the ghetto. Okay, maybe not quite the ghetto – but darn close to it. Anyplace where you half jokingly ask "So is there a lot of gun fire in your neighborhood?" and the completely serious answer you get is "Oh, not on our streets." She lives in the neighborhood just north of Angelo's Coney Island for anyone familiar with Flint.
I finally got to see Adie's wedding pictures – I haven't seen her since her wedding last June...on the summer solstice, with an opening and closing of a circle that involved the use of a dagger - yup, by far the scariest wedding I've ever been to. :) But like I told Adie I don't have to agree with her choices to be her friend. (We grew up in the same church so we've definitely made some different choices along the way.)
Sunday Rick and I went to early service at the church I grew up in and I got to see lots of people I haven't seen in a while. After church we went to the Ren Fest in Holly. Adie and her husband James decided they couldn't come with us after all but Laura, Kelli and Jamie (who apparently goes by Jimmy now), and Rick and I headed down to the Ren Fest together. We had a decent time. I think we worried too much about trying to stay together and as a result spent a lot of time looking for each other that we could have spent enjoying ourselves. Next year we may just go by ourselves, or if we go with a group we'll just have one or two times/locations during the day to meet up if we get separated so we don't have to worry about it otherwise. I think the going on labor day weekend may have contributed to having difficulties
staying together – there were just a ton of people there. I think I prefer a smaller crowd.
I didn't buy anything this year except food - so that was rather odd for me. Good for the pocket book though. :) I did see one thing I'm eager to rip off - it's a hair wrap that would be so incredibly easy to make that I couldn't see paying them $30 or $40 for one the length I would need since I have kind of long hair. I took a trip to the craft store after work today and I think I have everything I need to make several different ones for less than $15 - it's just a matter of finding the time to do it now. :)
I actually had more fun after the Ren Fest when we picked Adie up and went to Starlite for dinner and then back to Adie's place to hang out and just catch up. Adie's husband James broke out some mead their friend had home brewed and it was some good stuff. That's the first time I've ever had mead. After a few hours at Adie's place we went over to Laura's and hung out there. Made a 7-11 run to a store I swear moved from where I remember it being. Watched Evil Dead – my goodness does Bruce Campbell look YOUNG in that movie! Had a lot of fun playing with Mr. Satan (that's their cat). Got home (well, to my parents' house) about 3am.
Monday we slept late, watched old Star Trek eps my dad has on tape, came back home. Yeah, didn't really do anything on Monday. :)
I'm behind on reading my friends pages of course - but hopefully in the next couple of days I'll catch up. Hope you all had good holiday weekends.

Date: 2004-09-07 07:29 pm (UTC)This year we will probably only just buy food, which is weird. I need to get guiles (sp?) but will probably hold off longer. And the pottery....mmm...I'm always a sucker for that! So I'm staying away from the merchants this year when we go.
