May. 1st, 2004 12:16 pmI called my parents last night to wish them a happy 38th anniversary. My mom spent the day in Alma with a friend and my dad went to school, taught, and graded quizzes. What a way to celebrate! :)
I was talking to dad about next weekend. He and mom are coming into town and I'm taking mom to the mother/daughter banquet at church so dad,
_blackhawk_ and my brother (who lives near us) will be left to their own devices for dinner that evening. So my dad asks me "where is the nearest Hooters?" Now, you have to understand two things here - my dad is joking - he's never set foot in a Hooters - and two, in my family when someone is joking you always play along - much more amusing that way. :) So I told him "well, it's down in Portage off S. Westnedge but why stop there we have a Deja Vu too." At this point
_blackhawk_ who is sitting at the other end of the couch had a really funny look on his face. LOL I still think he's not 100% used to my family's sense of humor (and by that I mean my dad, brother and I since mom doesn't necessarily share the warped sense of humor dad instilled in us). We have discussions that sound completely serious but we all know that we're only joking. Like the seemingly completely serious discussions my brother and I have about the fact that he is actually not my brother but a Beta Unit (just like in the movie The Last Starfighter).
_blackhawk_ has at least gotten used to that particular recurring discussion.
This morning I was woken up at 9:30 by knocking on the back door - incessant pounding really. He must have suspected that I was asleep that early on a Sat. As I was groggily sliding out of bed I thought to myself "that can only be my brother" and sure enough it was. Really I brought it upon myself by leaving him a message last night telling him I'd love to see him this weekend. He was on his way out of town to Indiana for a Derby party. Some friends of his from when he lived in Kentucky who have now re-located to Indiana but still make a huge deal out of the Kentucky Derby invited him down. I knew he was going to that, but I forgot it was THIS weekend. He and I visited for about 30 minutes before he took off. My brother and I are really quite close so he knows he's one of the few people that can get away with waking me up and not get cranked at. :) It was good seeing him, even if it was brief. Since he moved into the area a month ago I've only seen him one other time. He's been sick most of that time - from the nasty bug he brought back from Nepal to his allergies and pollen season. Hopefully he will feel better soon.
Well, my wonderful plans for today include cleaning the house *sigh* and returning videos to the library. Then this evening there is a party at
_blackhawk_'s boss's house. I haven't met any of his co-workers yet and I won't know anyone there but him - so that should be loads of fun for an introvert. :) J/K I'm actually looking forward to it!
